You and I Are Polar Opposites takes place in Yokohama, Kanagawa, and, unusually for a school romance, in two very different Yokohamas. Suzuki and Tani's everyday life is drawn from the quiet residential hills of Aoba ward in the city's north. The finale sends them down to Chinatown and the harbour. Kōcha Agasawa's story (正反対な君と僕) fills the gaps with a school trip through Kyoto, Nara and Osaka and a museum day in Ueno. We have verified 41 real locations from the anime, and about half of them are in Yokohama.
Where does You and I Are Polar Opposites take place?
The series opens in Aoba ward, a commuter district of hills, parks and bus stops along the Tokyu Den-en-toshi Line. Akadahigashi Park appears in episode 1, together with a bus stop in Utsukushigaoka. The Yamauchi district centre and the Yamauchi Library, the after-school study spots, carry episode 5. There is no landmark here, and that is the point. The show's texture is suburban Yokohama, the kind of neighbourhood most anime invents rather than draws, and it is oddly moving to see it drawn this carefully. Episode 4 climbs to the observatory at Gumyoji Park further south for the series' first real view over the city.
The finale in Chinatown and Minato Mirai
Episode 12 is the payoff, and it is a single walkable route. From Motomachi-Chukagai Station on the Minatomirai Line, the pair pass the East Gate into Yokohama Chinatown, where the restaurants in our catalog, 456 Saikan, Rouishin and Wangfujing among them, are the working dim-sum houses of the district. The walk continues to Yamashita Park on the waterfront, up to Harbor View Park on the bluff, and back along Zou-no-hana Park with the Cosmo Clock 21 Ferris wheel of Minato Mirai in the background. Sixteen of our verified frames come from this one episode. It is the most concentrated afternoon of anime locations in the city.
The school trip: Kyoto, Nara and Osaka
Episodes 10 and 11 follow the class on its school excursion. Kyoto Station is the arrival shot, and the love-fortune stones at Kiyomizu-dera give the episode its set piece, the pair of stones visitors walk between with their eyes closed. In Nara the class visits Todai-ji, its Nandaimon gate and Kasuga Taisha. The trip ends at Universal Studios Japan in Osaka, where the globe at the entrance appears in frame. Back home, episode 9 spends a day in Ueno at the National Museum of Western Art, the National Museum of Nature and Science and Ueno Park itself.
Is Suzuki and Tani's high school a real place?
We have not matched the school to a real campus, and the anime does not present it as one. What is real is the neighbourhood around it, the parks, the library, the bus stops, and every stop on the trips. The Chinatown restaurants are busy businesses, so go as a diner, and photograph the street rather than the tables.
Which studio animates You and I Are Polar Opposites?
You and I Are Polar Opposites is animated by Lapin Track, and it premiered on 11 January 2026 with a twelve-episode first season. A second season is listed for July 2026. The manga, by Kōcha Agasawa, ran on Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ from May 2022 to November 2024 and is collected in eight volumes.
